I normally don't take Seasonale, but my clinic was out of the pills I normally use and mailed me Seasonale instead. I'm aware that it is intended to only give you 4 periods per year. This could be quite nice, but personally my mind is put to ease when I get monthly periods. Would it be possible to stop taking Seasonale after 28 pills to get a monthly and then start back up on the pills after a week?
Seasonale is made to be taken for 3 months in a row and you could risk pregnancy by stopping it for a week. All birth control pills have the same level of protection against pregnancy, when taken as directed.
Many women have "break through bleeding" when starting with pills that give you 4 periods a year, meaning you have more than 4 periods a year till your body gets used to it.
If you like getting a monthly period, medications are available that give you 3 weeks of full hormones, 2 days off, and 5 days of lower dosed hormones. That way you have shorter and lighter periods, but still monthly.
But please be careful with the thinking that a monthly means you are not pregnant, women can bleed during pregnancy, similar to that of periods, and think that they can not be pregnant when they really are.
