I had bilateral hip-replacement Sept of '09. Since then I have had a lot complications and pain issues. I was wondering if on a 25mcg/hr fentanyl patch If I can still exercise?
Did your doctor have you go through physical therapy after your surgery? I would think that light exercises would be ok. Check with your doc first. If you have too much pain, I would work on the upper body first. Also do a lot of walking. If there is any chance of re-injury, please go gently. Double check with the doctor. Good luck to you and hope your pain lightens up for you.
I was on a 50 mcg fentanly patch & I bike Alot& tend to sweat alot & I never had problems with pain from 2 c-1 c-2 vertabrae fussions, but I did have a problem with having the patches staying adhered (sticking on my skin) but like the other person said I would check with your doc just to make sure you won't reinjur your hip, since my contition was alot different then yours. If you do have problems with the patch coming off they do make a guard that's about 1 1/2 times bigger thant the patch to keep it from coming off as easy. Good luck. I myself have not had very good results with my operation. I'm still in alot of pain even though im on 8,8mg Dilaudid daily. Before that I was on 2 100mg M.S Contin & 6 4mg dilaudid, but that didn't work. I also have(pardon my spelling) ostiomitis(a bone disease that is similar to osioperotis but more advanced.
I had one operation where they put one screw in my neck but do to the disease the bone deteriated around the screw so I had to have another operation & now have four screws in my neck,& the thing that makes me the most upset is that the original surgeon who did the first operation, evert time I went & told him something isn't right & he just blew it off saying the screw "had just moved a little" now I'm mechanicaly inclined & I KNOW if as an example if you put a scew in a piece of wood & pull it back at all,all the wood behind the screw is going is going to be pushed out by the threads behind the ones in front! That's not the worst part though! He said I was fine when in reality if I would have fallen the wrong way I'd be paralized! If the satue of limitations would not have passed I would have sued the hell out of him,&i'm not the sueing type & have never sued ANYONE!! It was that doctors cocky attitude. Sorry to rammble I just thought it needed to be said, thanks for listening. J
My patch slipped out of place from the side of my arm to the top of my shoulder on Sunday without me knowing- I was shocked to find it gone and then equally surprised to find it again. However I wear it in the pool for water aerobics with no problem,l and if it starts to come up at all I put a Tagaderm on top of it. that should help.
