I have started a gym where we are encouraged to raise our heart rate which is monitored. Can citalopram hamper its affects at rasing the heart rate during exercise.
I don't believe that citalopram will hamper the ability to raise the heart rate, if anything it may increase heart rate some for some people. If you notice an abnormally high heart rate then please reduce activity and contact the prescribing doctor. Conversely, if you notice an abnormally low heart rate, then sit down and contact the prescribing doctor.
From my personal experience yes it does. I'm a keen cyclist and train wearing a heart rate monitor. I was put onto Citalopram for depression. I've found that my average heart rate has dropped between 15 and 30bpm on my rides and lacking power on the hills. :-( I'm going back to the doctor to ask for some different drugs.
