Yes, betahistine can be used long term.
The usual adult initial dose is 8 mg, three to four times daily, later reduced to 8 to 16 mg daily for maintenance, depending on patient response. The maximum recommended daily dosage is 32 mg.
The dosage should be individually adapted according to the response. Improvement can sometimes only be observed after a couple of weeks of treatment.
