Reports say do not take wellbutrin if you have an eating disorder although its suppose to help with eating disorders. I am a binge starve eater, meaning I will starve myself for a period of time than for one reason or another start to binge eat for days on end. This cycle keeps repeating itself over and over. I want to start on wellbutrin but don't know if the cycling will effect it.
While Wellbutrin is contraindicated in people who are or have a history of bulemia or anorexia because of the increased rick of seizures, if the dose is kept below 450 mgs per day and the dosage is increased gradually there is less chance of this happening. The incidence of seizure from Wellbutrin is very low. Wellbutrin can be taken with or without food so would not be affected by the cycling from that stand point.
I use to be anorexic and I take Wellbutrin. I really must suggest that you deal with the eating disorder through talk therapy as well as the use of medication whether that be Wellbutrin or some other antidepressant. I have found that the combination is what was most helpful. The medication can only do so much, we have to want to change our behaviors too.
