Hi I've been on b patch 5mcg 6-8 mo then alternating 5-10mcg 6 mo then 10mcg for 8 mo then brutal headaches started. Now I'm done. Last patch 5 mcg last wed. Already in wd pretty bad. Can't sleep having hard time functioning at work. How long will this last?
As with any narcotic medication, it's always best to have your Dr help you wean yourself off of it. Is your Dr aware you're trying to quit? He could prescribe you alternate meds that would help you stop a lot more comfortably than if you do it without help - even at this point. If you're determined to go it alone, you have at least 2-3 weeks of unpleasantness ahead of you. I would suggest benadryl at night to help you sleep. Ibuprofen will help to a degree with the muscle cramps and aches, although a good muscle relaxer would be of much more help to you. An anti-anxiety medication, even for a short term, would also benefit. Dress in layers - a tee shirt with a hoodie is good. Then when you go from the shivers to the sweats you can more easily handle it. Make sure to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water, fruit juices are good also. Don't overdo the caffeine, you're already having trouble sleeping! Watch your diet. Try and eat healthy, but expect that diarrhea will probably kick in shortly if it hasn't already. Immodium will help with that. Try and fit in 2-3 short 15 min walks a day. I know you're already tired and dragging, but the walks will help with the tiredness, the muscle cramps and your general overall well-being (really, I promise).
Above all, remember that "this too shall pass". I, too, had to quit the butrans patch abruptly due to developing an increasingly severe allergy to the medication. Fortunately I had my breakthrough meds to help me which is why I'm encouraging you to seek your doctor's help with this. Yes, you'll feel like crap for a few weeks, but if your headaches are anything like the ones I started developing, along with my hives, then just getting those to stop will be worth it! You might also Google the "Thomas recipe" for a list of OTC meds, along with other information that will help you. I wish you the very best of luck in this endeavor! :)
