At my last Dr visit my Dr recommended that I consider this patch as I am trying so many different meds and getting nowhere with relief. I am a very active person, or I was, and I need to be able to be my full self again. Also I don't like my kids seeing me take pills all day and still have to sit out on the fun most of the time. I need my life back.
There are currently no generic Butrans (buprenorphine patch) products available in the United States. Although the first patent for Butrans expired in November 2010, it is likely that other patents prevent manufacturers from making a generic version. The next patent is set to expire in December 2015, which would be the earliest date a generic product could become available.
Hello - From my research there unfortunately is no generic of this drug. If you live in the US Butrans appears to be the only registered manufacturer of this drug. A Pharmacist will be able to give you a definitive answer. It might be worth discussing alternative treatment with your pain doctor given your circumstances.- Take care
Butrans patches are very helpful. Keep in mind that they are an opioid pain medication--that is a narcotic. So it is a serious medication. Some people have bad side effects, but I think a lot of us don't. Also you can be more discreet if it is a problem for your kids to see you take pills all day long. But the Butrans patches kept me out of having to go to the ER for my intense pain about every 3 weeks when I would get so dehydrated from not being able to keep anything down, that I had no choice but to go. So it can really change your life. Unfortunately Butrans patches are very expensive. I was also surprised at how expensive the generic for Maxalt was. So good luck to you. I will be interested in how you do with them.
I am new to this website,. Have been reading all of your comments. So good to find a place we can share our experience with pain. To answer your question I just found out that Butrans patch is now available in generic form ( buprenorphine). This is as of June 2017. I hope this helps.
