I understand takes a few days with this pain med before it kicks in. It is considered a NSAID, & carries lots of side effects too. I am giing you a link to read about this med so you are aware of the potential side effects. Good luck, & best wishes to you...
Spidey, welcome to the site. I think that it is believed by drs and reps that the buprenorphine in the butrans patches won't block the short acting opiates like norco and Vicodin or lortab, but, just from reading many questions from patch users and knowing what I know about suboxone, it seems they are wrong. I have never seen one post where a person says that they got ANY relief from short acting opiates while on the butrans patch. Imagine bupe as a great big molecule or sumo wrestler, hogging all the receptors. If there was a sumo wrestlers sitting on a bar stool, how many other people could occupy that same stool, NONE, of course. If you will look over old posts in the butrans group, you should see a couple of people at least, saying their short acting opiates do NOT seem to work while on butrans. I hate this for you, but you may have to have a new plan with your dr, to get you comfortable again. Patti
I've been on the 5mg patch now for about 5 days (no side effects at all, yet) I was taking 5mg of percocet up to 4 times a day and by the next morning after starting the patch I no longer needed the percocet. On day 3 the patch came a bit loose and my pain did increase, I spoke to the pharmacist and he said this can cause it to become less effective. I taped it up with some medical tape and all is good again. Is yours sticking right? Could you try a different location and see if results are better?
I have been on the 10 mg patch for 2 days now and find that I do not need my Norco 10's as much now. But I do find that when I do need them and take them I get little to no relief anymore from them! The good thing is that my around the clock pain is in more control now with the patch. I wake up in the morning and do not feel as much pain and soreness as I did just taking 3 - Norco 10's throughout the day. Why does the Norco not bring my pain down anymore while on the patch? I see so many conflicting things on here I need the REAL scoop from a professional! Please help!
