Has any one taken this medication while pregnant for anxiety
Buspar is in category B for pregnancy meaning there was no evidence of fetal damage or fertility impairment. These studies were conducted on rats so it's a possibility that the effect would be different in humans. If you are pregnant or planning, definitely talk to your doctor. They will be able to give you more information and weigh the risks v benefits of staying on buspar during your pregnancy.
Mariebbb,,, THIS is a copy and paste of what it says on buspirone And to let your doctor know..If you are thinking of becoming pregnant, get etc... but as far as what the drug effects say here is your info from the test they did on the drug... good luck chuck1957 Pregnancy Category B: No fertility impairment or fetal damage was observed in reproduction studies performed in rats and rabbits at buspirone doses of approximately 30 times the maximum recommended human dose. In humans, however, adequate and well-controlled studies during pregnancy have not been performed. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Labor and Delivery
The effect of BuSpar (buspirone hydrochloride) on labor and delivery in women is unknown. No adverse effects were noted in reproduction studies in rats.
The extent of the excretion in human milk of buspirone or its metabolites is not known. In rats, however, buspirone and its metabolites are excreted in milk. BuSpar administration to nursing women should be avoided if clinically possible.
