Hi, since joining this group and reading and answering a couple of questions, I have not heard or read of any further news that may may help with BMS. Is there anybody out there who can give any extra advice. I am on Amptitriptyline which helps but I have soreness and burning quite often and boy oh boy does my mouth go dry, which I know is because of the Amptittriptyline. Thanks and Regards June
Hi June, I was on the Amitriptyline for 2 months (this was prescribed by my GP who knew nothing about BMS) and had to go off of it because I had such extreme dry mouth plus it made my entire body feel numb and it really did not help a whole with the BMS. I've just now gone to see an Oral Medicine Specialist. He has started me on Alpha Lypoic Acid and Magnesium. I've already started to notice some difference. Still have a tingling/sore tongue, but the burning has gone down some. On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the worse) I was at a 10 when I went to see this new doc and today I would say I'm at a 7, which I've never been lower than the 10. I go back this week for a 2-hour complete exam. He is the first doctor that I've seen (and I've seen 3 others) that knows about BMS and I feel is really going to try to help me. I've tried a lot of the cures people have talked about on this site and other web sites, but nothing ever really seemed to work for me. The Magnesium and ALA has helped some. Hope this helps you. Debbie
I've had BMS since 2009 and I determined that, after many failed visit to doctor, dentist, allergist and oral surgeon (biopsied and ulcers need to be watced for cancer. I started researching on the internet and came upon a researcher, Dr. R. Rogers, Dematogist Whiz who had the treatment answer: Alpha Lipoic Acid. Starting with 600 mg daily dose and worked up to 2400 mg: 1200 mg morning and 1200 mg evening. Within two weeks I noticed I dramatic improvement. I started this regiment 10 months ago and the symptoms (burning secretion from front of my mouth, ulcers that wouldn't go away, loss of voice, headaches & fever) have subsided and are under control. Dr. Rogers said take as much ALA as you need--- for me there doesn't seem to any bad side efftects (metallic smelling urine--I can live with.)
good luck. Hope it works for you. p.s. Sundowner or Swanson makes a "good" afordable quality 600 mg ALA.
I have been suffering with this horrible condition after sudden onset 15 years ago. I am getting best relief with the following combination: no caffeine, clonazepam 1mg. and paroxetine 20 mg. per day and brushing my teeth with baking soda. Try the no caffeine and baking soda first and take it from there.
I have been using clonazapam for over 25 years. It is the only thing that helps me at all. If I don't use clonazapam I go crazy. So I guess it helps. I have been using Biotene products for my dry mouth for a short time and it gives me some relief also. My burning mouth never keeps me from sleeping. Keep your chins up. Maybe someday, someone will come up with something that really works.
Let us keep our fingers crossed.
Hi June. I've tried everything. Nothing works -however, I have recently discovered aloe Vera. It comes in plant form. Only buy the medicinal one it ha s wide leaves. Just trim off the spikes and peel off the green skin. Then eat it. It's not great - but I've had more success with this than anything else in the past few years. I'd love someone else with the condition to try it and see if it works for them. It's used for burns, so it kind of makes sense that it would work. Good luck -give it a go. Please let me know how you go.
