Currently I am on 32mg of straight Buprenorphine. I am still having cravings and going through some withdrawals in the early Am or late night. I might talk to my prescriber, to go up an additional 8mg. Is anyone or has anyone ever been on such an outrageous dose? I'm conflicted on wether or not I should be taking such a high dose, it helps so much and is a life saver, I feel normal again. I feel like if it takes a high dose to make me have a stable life, than so be it. Any help, suggestions, experience would be appreciated.
Medical journals suggest there is little or no benefit above 16mg as maximum potential blood plasma levels are reached with this dose. Doses above this are largely for the psychological benefit of the patient.
I was on 32 mgs of straight bupe for 2 years. I weaned easily to 16 mgs over a 4 month period. It was definitely a scary thing but I went through no physical problems. The times of day that I usually took a whole pill, I now, take a half. I can say 3 years of being on 16 mgs, it is actually more freedom. It is absolutely true that after 16 mgs, the rest is a psychological component. I know that when I have tried to go below 16 MG I have felt withdrawal when I first wake up so 16 MG is definitely the sweet spot for me personally. Hope you are still doing well.
