My doctor, psychiatrist, said they should not be used together. I did a little research and if it needs to be taken, a psychiatrist's decision, the dosage should be a reduced by half.
That is all I have. I hope it helps.

My doctor was unaware of this and when I started Brintillex, I was also taking Wellbutrin, and the side effects were as bad as those that later led me to quit taking Brintellix. I don't remember exactly what they were; sorry. I did do some on-line research and found the problems I was having was why you weren't supposed to take them together. I'd say "just say no!!". This is from Drugs.com re interactions: "BuPROPion may increase the blood levels and effects of vortioxetine. You may be more likely to experience side effects, including a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects or your condition changes during treatment with these medications. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

Yes, your info is consistent with mine and explains my doctor's statement. I find it interesting that the drug interaction is noted, but is not an actual warning in the sense of don't do it. Mixing two SSRIs is always a bad thing (Welbutin is a SNRI)/
Clearly you should not be taking the two together, based on your reaction. I have been on Bupropion before, so I am familiar with it. It worked for a while, but like so many others, it did not last long.
Brintellix has been rather good to me. I had some mild startup problems, but nothing very bad. The only other psychotropic I take is Ativan for anxiety attacks, because Brintellix does not directly affect those.
My personal opinion is that you should talk to your doctor, or another if this one can't read, and see what else you can do. I was on Viibryd for a while as well. It too is in the new class of SSRIs that act on multiple types of serotonin. Brintellix acts on more types than anything on the market at the moment. That makes it uniques and very expensive.
Good luck.
RonMan. Been on the brin for 25 days, 10mg. Feel better but I was hoping to feel a lot better. Know it takes time. Any input would be appreciated. Also been getting freebies from Dr. What kind of money are you talking about? Thanks, Sumo
My pharmacy charges about $200.00 per month; started even higher. Good luck!
Grateful, how's it going on the brin? I've been on it 4weeks & feel like I'm at a standstill. No worse but not moving forward. Any words of encouragement? On 10mg. So price has came down a bit. I don't care what it costs just wish it would kick in & cure me! Thanks , sue
Ronman, how you doing on the brin? Looking for some good news, any one? Thanks, Sumo
Sumo - I had to quit the Brintellix. I had pretty major side effects of nausea, dizziness, headaches, etc. when I first started then again when we increased the dose. They went away after probably a week or so, but then came back and stayed after I had been on the higher dose for a month or two. It did help as far as my depression went but the side effects were too severe and lasting when they came back. I hope your experience is better!!
Sucks feel like a guinea pig. Sorry you went thru that. Thanks for the reply.
RonMan. You still doing okay on brin? I'm still on 10 mg. Fitth week. Afraid to go to 20mg. Hear too many have side effects kick in. I'm at a standstill, not getting any better. Any input would be welcome. Thanks, Sumo
I was taking 300 mg bupropion and started crashing then i added 10 mg brintellix. my social anxiety improved I signed up at a gym etc. but i became extremely irritable.. and I honestly did not feel great for that whole month. My whole reason for searching for help therapy, etc, was because of weight gain... I have now stopped the brintellix and started on pristiq 50 mg ( but now i am reading blocks that is makes you gain weight and I am freaking out)
my doctor told me that I could lower my bupropion to 150 mg and keep the brintellix 10 mg or keep 300 mg bupropion 300 and go to 5 mg brintellix.
I know that everyone is different, but I had major diarrhea and nausea on 10 mg brintellix... But my social anxiety improved so much, but the negatives just were too much for me.. But now I am second guessing my choice to start pristiq
