Hi. I'm currently on Lexapro (Escitalopram) for my GAD and I'm at 30mg for about 3 weeks now and I was previously on 25mg for 6 weeks with mixed results. Some days I feel like it's not really effective at all as I have bouts of anxiety throughout the day. I talked to my doc and he mentioned some options, either increasing to 40mg of Lexapro, switching back to my old meds Celexa which I was on for a long time and generally successful with OR switching to a new drug called Brintellix. Does anyone have any success with the new drug in treating generalized anxiety disorder? Thank you for your help.
The max recommended dosage for Lexapro is 20mgs and studies showed no increased benefit above this amount. I have taken Brintillex with some success, but we are all different so what works for one may not the other. The choice is yours if you want to go through the tapering off Lexapro and starting a new drug or going back to something that worked. Do not go above 40mgs Celexa due to its adverse effects on the heart.
geloman1; How long ago were you on the Celexa if it has been years that may be a good choice. I HAVE not heard anything but pretty good things on the new medication but it really has not been out that long But most people that have taken it from this site have said it has done wonders for them I just like medication to be out longer before I try them but that is just me but if you have only been off the Celexa for a short time I would try the Brintellix with what I have heard I do agree with Laurie that with the amount of time you have been on the Lexapro and still not gotten as much effect as you should have had it may be time for you to think of trying the new one. Have a good day and keep positive they well get one that is going to work for you.
geloman1 yes think it well be a good idea this has been going on for awhile and you need a break lets hope it works again and settles you down or back to normal But if any problems then you can turn to the other one you have given this one more than enough time. Have a great day. Hope things clear up soon for you
geloman1; NO there is no proof that even over 20mg does any good all it well end up doing is increase side effects as we chatted earlier lets try the Celexia prior to the other one that I HAVE heard a lot of good things about but it just has not been out long enough lets see if the CELEXA WELL WORK AGAIN. I was on Lexapro 20 mg. and felt it wasn't working. When I told my doctor, she placed me on Brintellix (now Trintellix) 5 mg. It didn't work so she increased the medication to 10 and then to 20 mg. I felt great, depression-wise, but the side effect of nausea and vomiting isn't worth it. She has dropped me back down to 10 mg. to see if I can tolerate that. I guess I can't and the depression is returning. I'm calling her Monday and asking to have a different drug prescribed. Problem is, every drug seems so scary. I have never had an effect from a drug before Trintellix. Now I'm afraid to take anything.
