I am taking seizure medicine and just had a baby. I was taking same medication while breast feeding my other daughter, except I am on 100mg more. I can probably cut back from 300mg to 200mg a day. My nuerologist is telling me one thing and the pediatrician is telling me a completely different thing. I am really upset cause this is something that I love to do. Please help!
There doesn't appear to be any strong evidence in the literature on either side. My daughter is expecting any day and is facing the same dilemma. She has taken 500mg daily throughout her pregnancy and wants to breast feed because of the strong support of the positive effects in breastfeeding in the literature. The experts she has consulted with support her breastfeeding and observing the baby for side effects. It appears that is what she is going to do. I would love to know how your baby is progressing. Are you seeing any side effects?
