Hi , i had a boil on my face a couple of weeks ago, was huge and painful. Some pus came out when it popped and drained (after stupidly squeezing) then it got worse swelling half my face, so I went to the GP and took a course of Antibiotics which stoped the pain / infection and the boil is almost gone and has reduced in size, now completely painless, however a hard lump remains (noticeable, but not painful). Will this lump go away (if yes, how long??) or do i need to see a GP to get it drained?
Since you've already been treated with an antibiotic and this is on your face, you should call your Dr. again and see what s/he wants to do. The boil isn't just going away and something must be done. If you've already been treated again, please let me know how that worked for you so I can help others when they ask. I'm sorry no one saw your question sooner. I had a hard time finding it even now.
Here is what you can do at home when you first get a boil:
You can take care of most boils at home. Apply warm, moist compresses several times a day to help a boil open and drain. After it starts draining, keep it clean, and continue using warm compresses -- a clean one every time. Change the bandage often and wash hands well. Resist the urge to squeeze or pop the boil. This can make the infection worse.
