Nothing seems to help the bleeding. My doctors have found no underlying disease or cancer. I've been bleeding for over five months now, and I'm only twenty one with no children. I've been prescribed birth control to regulate the bleeding but nothing seems to be working. I just feel lost and abnormal. This problem is interfering with my daily life. I just don't know which way to turn
Hello Mal-John12, & welcome to the site. It sounds to me like you need a second opinion. I would seek out a new GYN if it were me. Just my thoughts...
Ask your doctor about the blood feeders to your uterus. They think of cancer or fibroids and disease. My last 6 months before my hysterectomy-I was having 28 day periods that was set off by a D&C. My husband kept taking me to the Air Force ER every few days. That's an episode that I don't care to talk about. I lost twins when I was young ,and the later D&C that seemed to set it off. I had another D&C years later and set it off again-but I found a doctor that did a hysterectomy-28 day periods. I lost weight.the first time-was so weak. My neighbors were caring for my children. I would've given anything to been given a hysterectomy-but under American medical standards-I didn't meet the standards for having a hysterectomy. I will add that I had horribly heavy periods that lasted 2 weeks for years.
When the hysterectomy was done- they found that the feeder veins were were supersized-and they admitted that they didn't know how I survived-I spent 10 years going to gyns and in ERs trying to get a hysterectomy. I found one doctor that did hysterectomies on demand- you just needed to wait a year and still want one. He died before my year was up. All I can say- to to eat a high protein and iron rich diet to keep you on your feet-thank god you have a doctor that believes you. That doctor- he said that 60% of the women that wanted to get a hysterectomy-they found a medical reason why the women needed a hysterectomy-for me it was the blood feeders to my uterus- all of that blood had to come out somewhere. I had my first period when I was 10- and immediately went into heavy pads and almost 2 week periods. Also- have they checked your thyroid? That's out in left field-but it's worth a shot. My thyroid made me skip a month or so when I was a teen-ager- then it came back with a vengeance. I didn't wear-white or light clothes.
After reading this, are you seeing a general physician? You need a specialist. Get yourself in as an emergency appointment with someone who is well known in your community. This gynecologist is your key. I had a GYN who did not treat me well back when your age. When I changed, the new one flew into full tests and figured out what was going on.
If there is a university hospital or other major hospital in your area I would go to the ER. At this point your life is far more important than any cost. If you have insurance, so much the better.
Be sure the new doc knows about the blood transfusions when you make the appt. tell it like it is! Keep us posted on how you are doing, ok? Karen
I would have to agree with endlessPred on finding a university hospital. I would recommend making an appointment to see a Hematologist. You may have an underlying blood disorder that is causing you to have this continual bleeding. If you tell the new doctor your financial condition (s)he may waive part or all of the fee that would be normally charged. Also, teaching/university hospitals have social workers on staff that can help you find ways to get your medical bills or drugs paid or help you fill out the correct forms to get financial aid to pay some of your medical bills. Hope this helps.
I am in the same thing as you my doctors cant tell me whats wrong and always doing test and all come back normal, i did have a blood transfusion in 2009, i lost so much blood from blood clots as big as baseballs coming out of me. I was rushed to the er and they gave me 2 pints of blood and then put me on 4 birthcontrol pills a day then i was down to 2 a day for a couple months by my new obgyn.
I was on that pill for over 3 years then i started spotting more while on it so they switched me to a new pill, well then about November last year i started my heavy bleeding again and then i went to a new obgyn in the same office she put me on 2 pills a day then i had an ultrasound, i had a polyp in my uterus, so i had it removed it was 2 inches long she said and i had a d and c while they removed it, then i bled for 2 weeks after but light then one day it was so much blood, constant bleeding while all along my blood count was still pretty low from losing blood before my surgery and after, they put me on 3 a day of birthcontrol pills, still not stopping me, so i ended up in the hospital she put me on estrogen in an iv. she said she has never seen anyone not stop bleeding, well it didnt stop me, she sent me home a day after on a friday i went the whole weekend just still bleeding and bleeding so monday comes im weak i know i am so low in my blood count i could feel it, i see a new dr he puts me into the hospital and puts me on a hormone pill and estrogen and planned to give me the blood transfusion that day well the nurses didnt give it to me so i waited tell the next day and i finally got my blood transfusion 2 pints again, and my bleeding had slowed down and was stopping from the hormone pill. so after a couple days i left the hospital and my bleeding had stopped. So this was in the first of January, i was on 2 estrogen pills a day and 2 hormone pills a day by April i went to 1 estrogen and 2 hormone, i took a trip to ny as soon as i came home on may 28th i went down to 1 hormone and 1 estrogen. a week later i just went down to 1 hormone pill and no estrogen pill. now its almost been a week and i am starting to bleed. i see my dr tomorrow and i hope i can get answers. I have dealt with heavy bleeding my whole life but it seems to get worse and worse. she also mentioned i have a fibroid on the outside of my uterus but it isnt causing anything is what she said, i know exactly how you feel and its horrible i cant do anything because im in pain or im bleeding so bad i just have to change my clothes every hour or stay near the bathroom to pass the clots and not get blood all over me. Im seeing my dr tomorrow and i hope i can get answers im so tired of this and i honestly know the only way that i will ever stop bleeding is if they just give me a hysterectomy but i am only 26, i have came to decided that i would rather not carry my children and im ok with that i can adopt or save my eggs, but getting a doctor to do it i think will be hard, but i just cry all the time wishing i could be normal and not deal with this anymore than i should half to, it has ruined my life and i have so much anxiety caused from it.
i have seen a hematologist and he just ruled out cancer and that i am anemic and iron deficiency, which i already knew that, i have had my thyroid tested, its fine and normal, i have had so many test and ultrasounds and nothing shows why this is happening to me.
I am 47, bled solid HEAVY with clotting for 45 days straight. After reading just chalked it up for Peri-menopause. Went to my family doctor for my yearly exam, all came back GREAT. She put me on a Chemical DNC PILL. 30 DAYS, supposed to shed my inner walls and regulate my periods again. For 10 days my period stopped, then the heavy spotting began again til day 15, then back in FULL FORCE at day 19! Meanwhile, on the DNC pill... I went to another GYNO to find out what was going on with this bleeding! He does ANOTHER PAP, a week after my first one! Comes back OK again! Then they do a EXTERNAL SONOGRAM, next thing you know I'm going in for a INTERNAL SONOGRAM. They found a LARGE MASS THE SIZE OF A FOOTBALL! behind my uterus that COULD NOT BE DETECTED ON A PAP! coming up, I have a surgery date set! March 9th 2015. A full hysterectomy, remove the football mass ( and biopsy) and remove some excess belly fat where cancer likes to grow on obese people. As scary as all this is...
I'm soooooo happy I went to a second gyno! To think, if it wasn't found!!! The mass must be removed as 1 big mass, if it is cancerous... ( And it was taken out in pieces, it would scatter cancer throughout my body) please, go to a specialist! There's a REASON why you are bleeding this much!!!
