... who could help
Bipolar Disorder - Medication question for anyone with a milder rapid cycling / cyclothmic bipolar?
Added 9 Mar 2016:
I have a question if anyone could please help with. I have rapid cycling bipolar - I have known for many years and been trying to deal with it on my own (through sunlight, exercise, trying to self medicate when im down with heavy exercise and light therapy and when im too far up with valium). As im sure you can imagine, it only sometimes works and it has seriously started to take a toll on me (work, relationships, and exhausting / life consuming) trying to deal with this myself. I also get the worst anxiety some days which makes me feel like I cant move. My dad has bi polar and sadly I think I inherited it. Anyway, long story short - I recently gave in and am trying a mood stabiliser (gabapentin) which is helping somewhat but making me feel really flat and like a zombie. I have a psychiatrist appointment booked in for next week so im going to try and sort this out but first wanted to ask for anyone whos more experienced with medication than me: is there any mood stabilisers that don't have that zombie feeling to them? I really don't like the "being on drugs" feeling and its seriously effecting my short term memory (for example, forgetting words mid sentence and I downloaded the same song 2 times off I-tunes in a 30 min interval - random lol) I just don't know if this med is suitable for someone like me. I think im a bit depressed which is not helping but previously AD's make me manic as in about 2 days flat :( Thanks for anyone that can help, I would really appreciate it. It feels so alone on your own and sometimes I feel like there's maybe no solution which really sucks. Im trying to stay optimistic though. I realise meds effect everyone different and the psyc will be the best person to help (hopefully lol) I just want to get as prepared as possible. Thanks again.

Or maybe I should be asking more - is there a more suitable medication for rapid cycling that anyone has had success with that makes them feel like themselves, just more balanced? I danno if Gabapentin is correct or not, I went to my GP and it was kinda a mix between a lucky draw and a bit of hoping for the best : / lol
