they want me to get shock therapy for my depression
It may not have worked for me. I stopped taking it because I lost confidence in the psychiatrist who prescribed it and because it was too expensive. Many medications do work and work well.
Shock treatment is unusual and indicates you are having serious symptoms. Share if you can and we may be able to offer comfort.
A very few doctors still do shock therapy, and patients who choose it choose it only in certain situations. Make sure you talk to people who have experienced it. My beloved changed personality temporarily after shock. It is really a dramatic trauma to the system. It certainly works for some people, at least it meets their expectations. Modern methods are "humane" but the proceedure itself is "brutal" even though painless and not remembered.
Share with us some of your symptoms and we may be able to give you some support that will help with what must be considerable pain. Are the doctors trying to give you a "wake-up?" on the seriousness of your condition?
