... want to sleep all the time. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?
Hello oceanlover. you might try a cyclic antidepressant such as nortriptyline or imipiramine. Then theres klonopin, depakene, verapamil.and tegretol. Some can be used on thier own, and some in conjunction with lithium. Just a thought, have you mentioned it to your doctor. She/he might have a medication in mind. best to you.
When do you take the Divalporex? You're probably already taking it at night. But, just on the off chance you're not, try switching to night time.
I can share what I'm taking/I'm diagnosed BP II. And tried many meds.. I take Seroquel at night-300 mg, and 600 mg Lithium, 1 mg Clonazepam.
In am I take 375mg Effexor, 1mg Clonazepam and 15 mg Adderall(to help shake off the sleepiness).
There are a lot of combinations out there for you. Hang in there.
Hi Oceanluvr- I was Bipolar ll and took 300 mg. Lithium. When the shakes (tardive dyskinesia) began, it was because I moved and another Psychiatrist upped my Lithium dose by double! So, I went through several other meds., including Depakote (divalporex), which didn't work for me. We tried over 13 meds. for the bad depressions. Then suddenly, Effexor sent me into a major manic break. So, I was diagnosed as Bipolar 1. Typically, Bipolar 1 cannot take anti-depressants. So, I now take 100 mg. Seroquel at night, and 450 mgs. Trileptal twice daily. I also take 20 mgs. Dexedrine in morning cuz I am Adult ADHD. Somehow, that combination has worked great for 13 years! I also take 2 thyroid meds., Benecar for high blood pressure, and aciphex for stomach. And, lastly I take 2mgs. Suboxone twice a day for pain management. So, don't know if any of that helps. But, it was very important to me to search tenaciously for the right combination.
Thank God I had a terrific Psychiatrist (the original one cuz I moved back home!), who stuck with me even in my darkest hour when I thought we had tried every med. under the sun! Good luck! Its worth every hour trying to figure out the right combination. xo
Based on the drugs you have tried, it sounds like you have more a problem with mood swings then depression primarily. I recommend Abilify or Lamictal to help control the swings and any mania. If you are prone to depressive episodes particularly after the manic episodes, you might benefit from an antidepressant such as any of the SSRI's like Prozac or Lexapro.
As you can see from the many posts you have gotten there are many meds to choose from. One size does not fit all and it is a trial and error sort of ordeal. Hang in there, you will find the right combination of meds.
How long did you try the lithium? I was on it and got the shakes really bad but in time they went away. Thank God! It was so bad I couldn't write properly at all. But the meds were working so I gave it a go. Really happy I stuck with Lithium because they work great for me. Good luck and take care.
