If you have been diagnosed by a Psychiatrist or Psychologist as being Bipolar have you ever been prescribed or used Lithium?
With most bipolar individuals Lithium is successful and then antidepressants become more helpful.
If you have not spoken to a psychiatrist, please do so as they are best able to diagnose and treat Bipolar Disorders.

Dear Tracy, The doctor has good advice for you. Only a trained professional is able to diagnosis and treat bipolar disorder. I was being treated for MDD with antidepressants and antipsychotics with no results until a referral to a psychiatrist who tested and added a mood stabilizer to my medications, It has changed my life!
My best wishes to you. Hang in there. It takes some time to get the right diagnosis and treatment, but it's worth it! WCV
TRACYLJIMENEZ, Hi there. It's very frustrating and at times, difficult to deal with mental illness. Especially when you move from a Dr. You're used to seeing, and have to find a new one, who has a different diagnosis than your prior Dr. I've flat out, been told I was Bipolar, and flat out been told..I'm not. Anyway, I do agree with WildCatVet, and the thing that ended up helping me, and my life, more than anything is a mood stabilizer (Lamictal). I was a bit, oh, I would say... curious why my Dr. Wanted me to try it. I'm so very glad he did. I'm not saying this is for you or not. Only your Dr. Makes those decision's, but it never hurts to mention it to him/her. What works for one doesn't mean it works for all, but at least you've received a few suggestions. I hope you do more. Much luck, and I hope you find what you need. Ruthie
hi tracy!!! i was not able to take lithium (real bad reaction), so i was put on a combination of meds... depakote, abilify , seroquel and just recently, remeron... since i have started on the remeron, i have finally been able to sleep around 5 hours a night... i had been only sleeping 2-3 hours... for years that had been happening..my dr. had me on 1200mg of seroquel at bedtime to help me sleep, but as time went by, it stopped working so we went down to 400mg before bedtime and another 400mg when i wake up in the middle of the night...
HOWEVER, the few days that i was able to take lithium, i felt GREAT!!! so if you do get a true diagnosis of bipolar, that would be the way to start out..just believe, that is all i ask of you, myself and everyone else... things do get better!!! peace and hugs...
I was hospitalized with a major depression and had a psychiotic episode because of Seroquel. I was there 6 months until the doctors found me meds that worked for me. I take older drugs Manerix with Lithium. It has worked great for me and I have my life back and am very happy again. Don't give up there has to be something that will work for you. I was told that by a doctor that when Lithium works for you a lot of others usually don't. The only thing I would warn you about Lithium is that it can cause Hypothyroid so just make sure they check your blood levels for your thyroid and your lithium levels also. I did get hypothyroid after a year of taking it. So I need to take Synthroid pills for my thyroid. Some people are fine. But it's worth taking it because I no longer get depressions. By the way Lithium is for bipolar too.
Good luck and take care.
