Is this a medical Dr making all these diagnosis? I would urge you to seek the help of a mental health professional, counseling etc. Sounds as though you're being labeled and left with no ongoing, progressive treatment. You need that to keep you centered. Throwing labels and drugs at you really isn't very progressive treatment. Hope this helps.
As balbanese suggested, time for a change. Mental health provider, a psychiatrist or what? Have you taken any tests to help determine just what your psych issues are? Do you lose touch with reality? Has your psych person tried anything besides Xanax and now a frikkin anti-psychotic? OMG ... what a mess ... have the common side effects of Seroquel been described to you? I know, a lot of questions, and I have lots more. These medications are very mind altering, among other things and aren't to ne used flippantly. You could not make me take an anti-psychotic because I believe the risks outweigh any benefits, especially since no other meds, that don't have lasting side effects, have been tried. One just doesn't jump to a major psych med for management unless you've been "worked up".
I have been a psych patient for 43 years, and I would never let any mental healthcare provider treat me as you've been treated.
Get on the internet, research your "named" issues. Find out all you can about each psych med, what it's used for and what it does. When you take any psych med, it's not like taking an aspirin ... they can freak you out ...
Please do as much as you can as far as finding out about you. And yes, find a board certified psychiatrist.
I'm a little dismayed with your treatment. Please go get qualified mental healthcare.
Peace and sanity in an insane world,
I also agree with others on their views about your DR and your Situation..Xanax and Seroquel are two totally different medications, although they both are treated with depression, anxiety, panic disorder etc. Xanax are a Benzo, and Seroquel is an SSRI I believe. I been on them Both Seroquel can work great, But it's not for everyone. Your DR sounds a little off his game, If he has been treating you for 7 years and has now just decided to try you on seroquel, sounds pretty strange.I know with me, Meds like paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, were prescribed in combination with Xanax, first. Then they moved on to other drugs. Only problem I had with Seroquel was it made me Hungry as hell,
Get a second opinion, Sometimes personal relationships can hinder the factor in switching your Dr's, get the best person for YOU.
Manda71... I totally understand the feeling of memory loss. I had the same kind of problems. I am currently getting off perscription xanax which I had been on far too long. My memory is improving. 20 years on high dose xanax was a mistake. As for the Seroquel, I took it for quite a while and had serious side effects. With 30 years as a mental health consumer, I have found less is best. However, everybody is different. I would advise a second opinion. I currently wear the label Bipolar, but my diagnoses changes a lot. Makes one wonder doesn't it. Educate yourself about meds and diagnoses. Best wishes.
I agree with balbanese as well, Xanax is prescribed for panic attacks and anxiety related disorders, I also have bipolar 1 anxiety is a part of cycling through mania and depression panic attacks also can occur. However Seroquel is an Anti psychotic, it may help if ongoing psychosis is the issue and plays some role in the anxiety. I was on it for a brief period and stopped it didn't work at all only side effects occurred such as poor motor function or feeling as if the ground is unstable. Sometimes medications are grouped too closely what may work for some as a valid treatment for anxiety usually doesn't for others. That's a huge change and the memory loss issues could be from the strain of such a change. I would definitely Get a second opinion.
