... have been wanting to be around the wrong crowds and I know this is not healthy for me.This is really hurting my boyfriend.I was led to this website to take lithium.
I take Lithium because of a major depression I had and it has been a life saving med for me. It should help you with your moods swings I hear. Try to stay away from the areas you should avoid. Find people that are a good influence on you. That will keep you out of trouble. And of course for me. I like to pray. That is your best medicine for you since God knows what you need the most.
Hi. Lithium has been around a long time and has helped many, many people. However, it's not your only option nowdays. Especially for mania, I've had a lot more success for over 20 years with no side effects at all on Depakote and Depakote ER. It works really well as a mood stabilizer. Since 2011 I've used it together with Latuda and I have no weight gain issues nor any other side effects I had with some other meds I'd tried. This combination keeps me even and functioning normally most of the time. I wanted to comment because the consequences of mania really can be destructive to relationships, finances, and sometimes even life-threatening if you get into casual sexual situations.
Another thing I'd suggest particularly if a problem for you is hanging with the "wrong crowd" would be to find a support group, ask your pdoc about group therapy, maybe a 12 step type program or a free support group that many hospitals in larger metro areas sponsor, or even start some kind of class/activity that gets you involved with a group of people with whom you have something in common, like (just for example) a book club at the library or Barnes & Noble, or Tai Chi - the Taoist Tai Chi Society has branches all over the country and the world, and they're all really a nice bunch of people. You get exercise, friendship, no judgment, and you learn to relax and calm body and mind. Not expensive either, and much better than a gym. I started Tai Chi with them to try and stay mobile as my MS got worse; it turned out to work for everything that ailed me! Check their website for a branch near you. Good luck.
