My daughter is 15 and has had trouble sleeping since she was born. I really need help b/c now she is awake every night ALL night and then sleeps all day. O, we homeschool for this very reason. Even when she went to normal school, she was awake most hours and for most of the years she went to school, her school pic shows her with bags under her eyes. I need help..anyone understand..I feel guilty too b/c I feel like I should have done something to help her early on with her schedule but when she was up every two hours as a baby, I was so exhausted by the time she went to school. I just didn't know what else to do and now she is 15 and not much has changed.
You can give her melatonin, it is safe for children (over 6, I'd recommend).
Have you had her checked out by a psychiatrist? She could have a sleeping disorder, or another problem that she is afraid to discuss with her parents. Teenagers are like that a lot. So, I'd recommend a psychiatrist, therapist, and/or sleep disorder specialist if you can take her.
