Head lice are tiny insects that live on the scalp.
Head lice spread easily, especially among children who are often in close contact with each other. It can be very difficult to eradicate.
Having head lice causes intense itching, but does not lead to serious medical problems.
Lotions and shampoos containing 1% permethrin (Nix) often work well. They can be bought without a prescription. If these do not work, a doctor can give you a prescription for stronger medicine.
Talk to your pharmacist or doctor for more advice.
Your can read more information on head lice and treatment at:

It is recommended that your child's class is notified - it is likely that many of his class mates also have head lice and unless all children are treated it is likely that your own child will re-catch head lice even after treatment!
