I have also sustained 2 major head injuries, have generalized anxiety disorder and PTSD. And I was told that I had a stroke a 2 1/2 yrs ago!
Wow! sorry to hear you have been through so much. First thing is do you have a Psychiatrist, if not I would recommend one. Second, there are so many meds out there that I don't believe any of us would be able to tell you, what's best, as we all react differently to different meds. Third, we're all usually on a cocktail (a few meds) to help with the illness. And fourth, my miracle med was Abilify, added to my cocktail.
Bipolar is a depilating illness that is always a work in progress.
And you being through so much your pdoc would have to watch you carefully...
Hi, Ladela! As Bipolar says there is no *best* medication(s) for BPD because every one of them affects every one of us differently and we usually have to take a *cocktail* of several different drugs.
Medications that may be used are anti-psychotics, antidepressants, Depakote, anti-cholinergics, anti-convulsants, and the gold star mood stabilizer, lithium.
Sounds daunting, but it's worth the trials and errors when you feel happy and functional again.
Given your history of other medical problems, you'd be wise to ask your doctor(s) for a referral to a licensed psychiatrist and be sure he/she is aware of drugs you are already taking.
Hang in there! This too shall pass. :-) WCV
There are so many meds to choose from and they need to be tailored to your particular set of circumstances. It really depends on the symptoms you are having as to what needs to be treated. Unfortunately, finding the right med or combination of meds is a trial and error ordeal. If you are suffering, finding the right meds is well worth the effort. Best to talk to the professionals about your symptoms and other health issues and let them make a wise choice.
