Have you seen a dermatologist? It's very likely you will need to have the infection cultured - a sample put on a slide and sent to the lab to grow. The lab tests various antibiotics and reports to your doctor which antibiotics worked. This is not something to mess around with. It could be MRSA - your immunity was lowered while you had shingles. I didn't have shingles, or MRSA - just a stubborn staph infection - twice. One time I was prescribed a strong Erythromycin gel, the other Bactroban gel. Both are only available by prescription.
