I have been going to VA Hospital for 20 years I am a total disabled service connected combat Veteran. My mental disablility is 100% for anxiety, and I have not been given one med to stablize my anxiety. What can I talk to my psychiatrist about? I have been taking seroquel and depakote for mood stablization but I am no better after taking them for five years. Is it Okay for me to be taking 100mg Modofinil in the morning as I have COSP, Chronic Obstructive Sleep Apnea, I try to use APAP, unsuccessfully.
Thank you for your service. You are ok to be taking the modafinil. About all you can do is explain to the doctor prescribing your meds the same thing you have said here. "The meds aren"t helping the anxiety." The are many different type medications that can help with anxiety, but only you and your doctor know your particular symptoms. If you can describe the anxiety to the doctor, this would be helpful as well.
GAD requires anxiety medicine of some sort. I'm surprised your Dr. hasn't treated you yet. The seroquel is of some help, but it's not a 24 hr. help. I've had to take Klonopin/clonazepam or Tranzene/clorazepate 24/7/365 since I was diagnosed. It eventually has caused memory problems so they are not perfect answers. But living with high anxiety is no way to live, either. If your anxiety is fairly low, you may be able to avoid these drugs and take something that won't eventually affect your memory. Please tell your Dr. your symptoms and don't leave until he/she has addressed your problem.
