I need to give my dog an expired prescription of miconazole 500 mg. 2 x day, until I can get him back to the vet. The script expired four years ago. Thanks!
Hi, mtn! The drug manufacturer only guarantees a drugs effectiveness until the stated expiration date. This doesn't necessarily mean the drug is no longer effective or unsafe to use. Depending on the conditions the medication was stored in it's generally consider to be effective for several years, longer if foil or bubble wrapped.
In other words, your miconazole isn't dangerous but it may not be as potent as when prescribed.
Best wishes, WCV
