After being on Morphine SR (30mg x 3) and OxyCodone (5mg x 4) for about 14 months I've stated to get tolerant on these medications, and I need to rotate to something new. (Raising the dosage is out of the question - I get headaches if I go higher on the morphine) My question is what are my available options out there. Since I've become tolerant to oxy, I can't switch to OxyContin, and I don't like the Fentanyl patch (hate the taste I get in my mouth). Lastly for personal reasons I don't want to be on Methadone. What's left? I'm having a hard time researching what's currently being prescribed and what's fallen by the wayside. Any help would be great to a new member! :-)
One of the synthetic morphines may still be an option such as Dilaudid or Opana. You would have to talk to the doc to find out for sure, but worth a try. Another medication that is for opoid tolerant patients is Actiq. It is fentanyl but in a lollipop form. It doesn't have a bad taste and you just suck on it to get the medication into your system.
Just my toughts,
