i would like to know if a kid of 6 years old need a cat scan is safe to drink twice 9.5g of barium sulfate 19 g total ? thank you
angie; Yes I believe after much reading that this is correct really everyone drinks it twice or rather 2 different times. prior to the test. And her dose is very low compared to you or me so for a child this is very safe. One thing I want to point out don't let her get the liquid on her skin, And during the time she is taken the first dose keep an eye on her for any skin rash. This is very rare but worth checking for. Many times the office say nothing. And plan on being ready for a long day the day she has to drink this It is common for anyone to start to have Diarrhea sometimes shortly after the second dose. And after the test which is pretty simple nowadays. But she could have loose stools that whole day, But she still should drink plenty of water after the test because most get very constipated after drinking the Barium it's not bad tasting but remember to have her drink water several times a day that day and she may even need a laxative the next day. Because this barium can be like chalk and it clumps up. So watch and see how she is doing. Again this dose that she well has for this test is a child's dose no worries. You're a good mom. Have a great day. and hope your daughter feels better soon. Also at the appointment, you could ask about how much water she should drink and if she needs the Laxative just in case so you get the right amounts. Chuck1957
