I was given Baclofen and read that it is not recommended for ppl with history of strokes. I had 4 strokes within 2 weeks n 2 heart surgeries with a Vascular Implant. Should I be taking this and it says for pain not Muscle Spasms
It doesn't seem to help people who's spasms are related to stroke, and people who have had strokes have decrease in tolerability. Was the doctor who prescribed it aware of your strokes? He probably meant for pain of spasms. I would ask him about it, since it isn't the one recommended for stroke patients and there are other muscle relaxers.
I have taken Baclofen for 5 yrs & it is a muscle relaxer that is the Best muscle relaxer I have ever used. I have had 5 mini strokes as I have Vascular Dementia. I have discussed Baclofen usage with both my Neurologist & pain management dr.
They both said based on the other medications I take that all muscle relaxers have that slight risk of them affecting stroke conditions.
So as long as your dr. is aware of your medical condition he has weighed the options & believe that this medication will not affect your stroke risk.
You did not mention why the doctor prescribed this medication to you. Can I ask fit what purpose it was
Prescribed to you for ?
I hope this helps & you give this medication a chance it works very well.
I wish you the best of luck. Kathy
