ER has diagnosed me twice as having a thorasic strain. Very painful and if irritated by too much activity will start cramps and or spasms that take my breathe awayonly after screaming because of pain. I am 47 yrs old and have always been fast healing with no other health issues.what should i do to get this injury behind me?
I just did the exact same thing to my back about a week ago. Horrible, isn't it? Muscle injuries, especially in the back, take a notoriously long time to heal. I mean you have to move, right? And most of those moves involve your back muscles. I try and remember to do some gentle stretching exercises before even leaving my bed in the morning, that helps. Don't be surprised if your Dr sends you to physical therapy. They'll teach you some strengthening exercises for your core muscles. They'll also show you the way you should be doing things. Like lifting with your legs instead of your back. I can hear you wondering from here, "why if she knows so much did she hurt her back?" And I answer with a slightly embarrassed grin, "because sometimes it's hard for an old dog( I'm 49) to remember to employ new tricks!" On the upside of pt, you'll also get some wonderful treatments like heat wraps and massage. So go willingly if it's suggested. I hope you recover soon!
What medications did he give you to take? You probably need to an anti-inflammatory. For back spasms, sometimes the Dr will give you flexural. Resting all the time and not moving around, will make it that much longer before it gets better. Pt can help, too. Make sure you follow the directions of your doctor.
