... I use to be very active and now after 2 back surgeries with no help I am in constant pain and its hard to stay positive... just wondering how everyone deals with these feelings???
There are solutions to your dilemma. Are you currently engaging in a exercise program appropriate for your conditions? I highly recommend physical therapy to learn exercises which will not only help the pain, but also the mood. There are antidepressants such as Cymbalta which help with nerve pain as well as depression. Might want to consider both.
I deal with the constant pain and depression with medication, exercise, playing with my dogs, and being just too stubborn to let illness get me down. I have a day or so now and then, but then I say enough and refuse to let it bother me again. This is my life this is what's been given to me, so I have to live with it. I can make the choice to let make me a miserable person, or to have the best life I can.
It is hard. I know how you feel about motivation-it is so hard to get motivated when every cell hurts and you just want to crawl up in bed and not move! I read a lot to escape. I find it is the best way to distract myself but it doesnt help me to get my housework done but I have learned over the years to not look at it. I can only do what I can do and if anyone else in this house doesnt like it they can clean it up themselves! lol I do try to take a walk with my dog (or he takes me for a walk I should say) but he is a joy and he seems to know when I am in pain-he will jump up next to me on the bed and he scoots himself over to where he lays his back against my back where it hurts and he's like my living heating pad. I am able to work from home and that is a big help too. It gets me out of bed!
