Oxycontin is not meant to take as often as oxycodone. Its extended release. You don't need as much of an extended release drug as you did when it was immediate release. The dr needs to order something for break thru pain too. Extended release meds offer better pain relief because in chronic pain the object is to prevent the pain, not treat it once it gets bad.
Yes. It is worth it if you are in severe, chronic pain. The Dr. isn't taking you off of your current meds, he's adding on a long-term med that's usually taken 2 or 3 times a day, as opposed to 4-6 times daily. Talk with your Dr about your fears as well. Good luck and take care. :)
