... surgeries total. My pain is in my tailbone.I have been on so many different drugs since then.I have been taking Morphine Sulfate 15 3x a day for about a year. Doc suggested Butrans,so I weaned myself off of the Morphine. It's been 8 days and I still have THE MOST HORRIBLE taste in my mouth and smell in my nose. I ACTUALLY have had cotton shoved up my nose all week. I thought it was something in my house, but nobody else smells it. Please tell me there have been others who have had this problem. I haven't started the Butrans yet because I want all of the Morphine to be out of my system.
This sounds exactly like what happened to me during my horrible 8-month withdrawal experience, including "nobody else smells it."
Smells exaggerated like 10,000 times, could taste smells for a while. I wonder if you stopped the morphine too abruptly? I would have given it 2-3 weeks gradual scale down. Hope this helps.
Bless your heart! I was injured in a very similar way! I got hurt pushing beds in and out of the OR! Mine hurts down in the very low back to tailbone area too. As far the smells, I cant answer because I've not tried to wean down on my pain meds. I do, quite a lot think that I smell fumes, like traffic fumes or car fumes. It seems so strong to me that I can taste it and no one else in my family smells it. Perhaps it is just in the taking of the medicine. Did you never smell it before you started weaning down?
yep, Balbanese nailed this one. It is a withdrawal symptom and it should go away when you get on the patch. Put some lip gloss in whatever flavor you like, in a thin line right under your nose, or a small amount of vics salve will work too. Good luck on getting on the Butrans, many say it works wonders, I haven't had any experience on that, but do know it should take care of the smell. I hate having tht symptoms because it is not usually something that smells good that gets stuck in your nose hairs. Patti
