I am off all narcotic pain medications and my doctor and I are looking into other treatments. PT isn't working, but I'm still working hard at it. We are also considering lyrica or low-dose methodone. The doctor said I can increase the dose of magnesium to 400mg, one in the am and one in the pm as it hasn't worked yet. Anyone get any relief???

My knowledge of magnesium is it will help cramping type pain. I recommend you try the Lyrica as it is non narcotic and works great for some with neuropathic type pain. Methadone is another opiate which means more narcotics. There are other non narcotic pain relievers depending on the cause of your pain such as Cymbalta, also for neuropathic pain and non steroidal anti inflammatories (NSAIDs) for inflammation and pain. Really depends on the source.

Thanks for your comments. I am currently on Cymbalta and it isn't helping with the pain. I also tried anaprox 550mg and it doesn't work either... which is frustrating. Today I couldn't even get off the couch... except to sit for short periods of time. The magnesium hasn't helped yet, even though I have doubled the dose. Only time will tell. I do have an option for another surgery. I had a stimulator placed in my back last june witch helped decreased the pain for about 2 months. We didn't know it at the time, but the leads moved. They can go back in and move the leads and put in new ones to specifically cover my lower back. That might help, but there is no guarantee. Oy!
I have the neurostimulator as well. If the leads migrated and it worked for the first couple of months before they did, I would definitely consider having the leads replaced.
