Just trying it out I'm not sexually active (yet)
You can start it the First sunday after you period STARTS. If you take it any other time it will work but you will be working against your normal cycle and will have spotting because it changes when you have your period. You body would get used it and stop the spotting but it can take a few months. Also if you start it at any other time but the first day of your period you will have to use a condom for the first 7 days of the pill.
It is not that it wont work, it just works better if you wait for your period. Since you are not sexually active yet, you should probably wait and take it the day you start your period. The Pill works be stopping ovulation. If there is no egg released, there can be no baby no matter how many sperms are present. If you start mid cycle, you dont know if you have ovulated yet and you dont know at what point the Pill begins to work. The manufacturer says seven days of active pills need to be taken then you are safe but that is looking at starting the Sunday after your period starts, not mid cycle so if you ovulate before the Pill can work pregnancy can still occur. This is why it is better to start at period time. Period time is the beginning of your natural cycle and by starting then you will be sure to stop ovulation from happening from then on out.
