My son is going to be 10 and has been on meds for adhd for awhile and has also taken meds to help him sleep at night. I just recently found on here that 2 of the meds he takes to help sleep should not be combined... What are some other meds he could take with Vyvanse and yet can help him sleep?
What are the names of the medicines your son used for sleep? Sometimes medicine combinations can be used together, even though they are not recommended, provided it is closely monitored. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about your concerns.
You might want to ask your doctor if he could try Daytrana instead of Vyvanse. It is a skin patch form of ADHD medication that we have used very successfully with our 12yo son. It is great because you can remove it whenever YOU want to stop the flow of meds to try to reduce interference with sleep. He removes it right after school unless he has an important activity in the evening when he needs full focus (ball game, etc.). The effects linger long enough to get through homework and/or activities, but allow him to sleep a little better. Of course, it all depends on how an individual responds to each medication so you'd have to just try it to see how it goes for your son. Then maybe he could stop the sleep meds altogether, or at least reduce to just one to avoid the interaction problem.
