Recently prescribed Albuterol for quick relief but feel bad on it. Is Atrovent a good substitution for rescue relief while still using Spiriva as the maintenance inhaler?
Not really. Atrovent is generally used for maintenance of asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), not in an acute attack as it will not work fast enough.
Albuterol is more effective in treating an acute attack as works quickly.
Atrovent and Spiriva both belong to the same class of drugs called anticholinergic bronchodilators and work in the same way.
