As I get older my anxiety attacks are much more frequent. I have never been diagnosed with ADD but I've always had a difficult time staying focused on only 1 thing. Should I try taking only when I feel anxious or take everyday?
Hi lonelygirl. Atomoxetine, or Strattera as it is marketed in the US,there is no generic,is for ADHD. It should be taken daily and you can expect results anywhere between 1-8 weeks. It was originally designed to be used as an antidepressant, but when clinical studies were done, it was found to not have an affect on depression. It is not for anxiety either.Since norepinephrin is believed to play a role in ADHD,Strattera was approved for use in treatment of ADHD.However, when taken with antidepressants,it can help greatly with depression. The good thing about this drug is that there are no negative affects from stopping the drug.In other words, you don't have to wean off, you can just quit taking it.
Blood testing is recomended while on Strattera,as it can affect the liver.A few other side effects are OCD,weight issues, blood pressure changes, psychosis, mood swings, depression, and abnormal thought patterns, just to name a few. This site has some good information, and if you want a more in depth look at it go to Wikipedia.
Hope this information helps in your decision to take or not to take.
