I would see if the doctor would consider a low dose stimulant. When I was first diagnosed (at age 28) I tried a non-stimulant therapy. I noticed that I was somber and quiet. The things I enjoyed no longer satisfied me. It was like I was numb an in a haze. When I switched to Adderall, everything was fine. My focus and attention were much better but I still had my personality and my life. Putting your child on such a heavy chemical should never be the first line therapy but in this case, I would investigate it.
