How does Ativan compare to Klonapin?

- ativan, klonopin, anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder
I've been on Klonapin for Generalized Anxiety Disorder for about 8 years now and it worked great up until a month or so ago (with only increasing the dose a couple times over those 8 years). However, my anxiety over the past month has been absolutely horrible, so my dr decided to switch me to Ativan... I know that it is in the same drug class (both benzos), but was curious if anyone has made this switch, and if they have found Ativan to work well for them???
Hello hope316. Ativan is a fast acting benzodiazepine. You'll feel it working within minutes after taking it and the relief will set in. Its used for high anxiety moments, panic attacks much as Xanax. Klonopin is a slow acting benzodiazepine, used for as you've been taking it, general anxiety disorder or GAD. Regards, pledge
