Hi Miss Anxiety, according to Drugs.com, (the site we're on), Atenolol is used for various heart, and other related issues. I recommend that you go to that page to find more answers. If your heart palpitations are caused by ANXIETY, and NOT other heart issues, there are alternatives which you might have laying around the house from previous prescriptions for anxiety that could help if you begin to feel anxiety building up. If you do have some, leave a message for your doctor that you have run out of Atenolol and if it would be ok to take (whatever it is you have). But he, most likely, will call a script in to one of the pharmacies that are open on holidays, only because it does state that to quit taking Atenolol suddenly is not recommended. Hope this helps.
