... thyroid function. I read that my hair will fall out, although my hair is already thinning, and I am suffering from chronic fatique and I wonder how many of my symptoms are from the wrong thyroid medication and how much is from my having fibromyalsia. I have sweats during the day and night. I am really worried about the hair thing... I'm hoping that will stop and maybe regrow in the thinning area. I am just confused with the differant reports on this medication weather to take it or not. I have been taking synthroid for 15 years or so and my numbers with my recent blood work are very low and even the ones I don't understand (other than t3 and t4) are way off. Does it take long for any side effects to start and can they be reversed if I change back to synthroid?
I've been on Armour thyroid since about 1988. I'm 69 years old and I have bangs and hair that goes past my shoulder blades. Having low thyroid can cause thinning of hair, eyebrows and even hair loss on the head. Even too much thyroid can cause this. It takes about 6 months to notice, but in about 6 weeks each strand of hair becomes thicker-while more hair is growing in. Also, your hair will become more manageable and less brittle. I do not have a bald spot anywhere. I shampoo my own hair with a cheap shampoo and conditioner. Ever so often, my doctor touches my hair for a visual check-like to see if I'm using gel to control it-or have extensions, which I don't. I do have baby fine hair-always did. Armour is my preferred thyroid hormone suppliment. I hope that this helps you- good luck-Also it will take about 6-8 weeks for your TSH levels to be stabilized-which doesn't mean that you won't need more adjustment. You might be okay or need a tad more or a tad less of suppliment to get where you feel well and your lab work is in all of the normal ranges. I'll friend you-and if you ever want to talk about any of this in the future-great-your new friend
