I suffer from insomnia, have tried prescription medication which worked great for like 2 nights then it was back to not sleeping at all. I have tried melatonin and calms forte and no help there. Was wondering if anyone knew of anything else. The only thing that seems to help me sleep is hydrocodone, or cough syrup with codene in it.
I also have insomnia, and have several things that I use, switching every few days. One product is Melatonin with Valerian root, hops, skull cap, and chamomile, with passion flower. This is all in one capsule that you can purchase at any pharmacy or health food store. Also, there is a tea called Sleepy Time Tea, it tastes like road kill, but I have friends that swear by it's effectiveness, yet I can not gag the stuff down!
Also, try Benadryl once in a while, it tends to knock me out when sleep will just not come!
Have you tried a new rx called Silenor? It did not work well for me, but other people have had great success with it. Worth a try, if your doc will give you samples to see if it works for you.
Wishing you sweet dreams,
I also suffer occasionally from sleepless nights, an know how shitty you can feel the next day, just really drained, like a battery with no juice. At night I put the Tv on, something that I have seen a 100 times, this way i won't roll over and wonder whats going to happen next. Some people like no TV at All, but I find That a small quiet noise helps m, rather than just complete silence and listening to the house settle, your mind never shuts off like that.
But there are a few things, such as Valerian Tea, or chewing Valerian root. I would advise the tea, try 2 bags instead of 1.There also is Ambien, which you have probably heard of, They may be a little habit forming, but Oh yeah they do the trick, and no grogginess the next morning. You can get an easy 6 to7 hours from Ambien. And if your worried about the little bit of narcotic in it, they make an Ambien CR, which works well too. I have also tried Tylenol Pm and to my surprise they actually worked.
They say take 2 I took 3 and it was lights out.
There is also Lunesta, But I would Definitely stick with one of the Ambiens.
Good Luck, and try the Tylenol Pm's first, since you most likely won't get a DR appointment for a few days. Or you can try the Valerian Tea, you can buy it at any health food store. Just don't mix Valerian tea and Tylenol pm or Advil Pm, or Especially AMBIEN, Okay Good Luck this should definitely work. I hope I was helpful to you.
Hello Adrein26! I have insomnia also. I have taken prescription meds but they can have ugly side effects. I have tried over the counter drugs which have Benadryl in them but I usually need to take twice the dose and I end up feekling jittery and out of sorts. I will take them anyway if I go 3 days without sleep because I get desperate. I am now taking " Valarian " which is a herbal supplement. Again I need to take twice the dose. It works for some people and you can buy it for $4.00 at Walmart. I think it is higher at the pharmacy or herbal supplement stores. It is so hard to find something that works. I think my insomnia is from taking Avinza( morphine) or my zoloft. I have tried meditation, I exercise, and try and do all the things that thet suggest for Insomnia. Well I hope that this will help you. Everyone reacts differently to drugs because of our Chemical make up. I wish that you can finally sleep! Sweetie Pie
I add 5htp (tryptophan) with my melatonin, or I alternate them.
Calms Forte and melatonin help my kids get to sleep, in small doses, but I need something like Valerian (natural valium-otc).
You can find all of these at most stores that have a pharmacy.
Chamomile with lavender also helps, my kids and myself
