It drains fluid off the brain.
My honorary daughter had one for a Rafke's Pouch, also known as an arachnoid cyst. It went down her back and drained into her torso. It was removed once the excess spinal fluid drained. I can ask her to help me answer any questions you might have. Just let me know.

Well I'm 32yrs old and they put mine in when I was a month old in 1981 my first shunt revision was ages 9,11,16 and they never had to go n my head all that happened was it would come loose as I grew now all I have is trouble with it from 2005 until now I've had 189 surgerys and all in my head they put another shunt in on my left side that works but they can hold this thing to my head and adjust it but the doctors are sick of me I think because last time I went for them to adjust it they wouldn't so now I just drain it myself by sticking a needle in my head and suck it out. What I wanted to know is has anyone had this much trouble and does anyone know any doctors in South Carolina that I can see the doctors I see now is in Greenville SC so it can't be them
