My doctor switched me from clonazepam to Valium 5mg. Is it safe to start the Valium right away being I just had a half of a .5mg of clonazepam last night?
It's possible that some Dr.'s might want a soft transition, but I had a regular prescription for clonazepam and was also prescribed Valium. The day I was prescribed Valium, I asked if I could stop the clonazepam, and my doctor said yes great go ahead if you want to. I had taken my last clonazepam the night before, and I started Valium in the morning without any problems. I think they're close enough to one another in terms of being in the same class/family that there doesn't need to be any cross tapering or concerns about with drawl or overdose, unless you're potentially taking the two at the same time due to respiratory depression. Even then, my doctor was going to have me take both at the same time, and I was the one who didn't want to.
Barbara; Yes that is long enough between the two and it is normal on the lower dose like your taking just to switch the two. For most people the Valium or the generic kick in faster when they need it. Good luck I hope it does the job for you.
