I have had 2 sleep studies confirm I do not have sleep apnea but I sleep 12 hours at night and take a 4 hour nap. However, I get almost no REM sleep.
I take Provigil, 400mgs in the morning and another 200 in the afternoon. I use to sleep like you, 12 at night and another 4 in the afternoon. Not anymore. I think part of my problem was depression for which I take two antidepressants and what my doctor calls idiopathic hypersomnia, fancy words for unexplainable sleeping too much. You might benefit from increasing the dose or possibly adding an antidepressant if you are prone to depression.
