And how long have you dealt with it? Have you considered injections or surgery to help control it? I am going on my sixth year now and I need to find a more long term treatment insead of a month to month prescription treatment. I really hate the way I am treated at the pharmacy every month. I am questioned every tome even though I go to the same place. They make me feel like a criminal. Does anyone else ever feel like this. It really almost makes me feel as bad as the disease itself ( not really, but close) They make me feel like a loser or an addict when i am only tying to live day by day. My doctor has even started to add his pesonal cell # on the script because each month they want to talk with him. Help please???
I have had atypical TN for about 10 months now. Lyrica seems to work better for me than Neurontin which did nothing but made me dizzy/sleepy and depressed. I'm also taking an antidepressant; being in almost constant pain is hard to cope with especially since one doesn't know if it will ever go away. I find that I can function better on the antidepressant. When I was on a holiday that week I didn't have much pain, maybe it was because the weather was stable most of the time, maybe it was the sea air or just being away from work and every day stress. So I assume that trying to stay as much stress free as possible helps (easier said than done though!). I'm really sorry that they treat you in this awful manner in that pharmacy; you're a chronic pain patient not an addict - I wish for you that your doctor explained that to them.
The pharmacy has NO right to treat you that way and make you feel bad!!
Trigeminal is extremely painful and while narcotic pain meds help take the edge off, you're still in pain. Injections could help. I've had some but they haven't really worked. Surgery has risks and may or may not help depending on your circumstances.
