I've been on a wide variety of drugs the past 12 months for my OCD. Started with Effexor, then changed to Luvox, and now I'm on Lexapro. Unfortunately, my symptoms (intrusive thoughts, anxiety, depression) haven't gotten any better even though I'm on a really high dose of Lexapro (40mg). My doctor is planning to switch me from Lexapro to Clomipramine and was wondering if anyone with OCD has had success with Clomipramine? I'm at my wits end with medication changes. Thanks for the responses!
I don't know of anyone personally who has taken this for depression or obsessive compulsive disorder, but the links below have reviews that you may find useful.
Hi, yeg! I haven't taken or known anyone who's taken clomipramine either. It's an *old school* tricyclic antidepressant that used to be prescribed commonly for OCD/depression and was quite effective. When the SSRIs and SNRIs hit the market doctors began using them instead, but found many people didn't respond, so clomipramine seems to be the drug of choice once again. I hope you find it more helpful for you!
Best wishes, WCV
P.S. Borat or beer??
Hi yegshimesh The hard thing with these problems is having to find the medication that works best for each person and is very upsetting when i was still working I had several people on Clomipramine with great results this medication has been around longer than some of the others but can be effective sometimes the doctors forget about the older drugs and start with the newer ones because the drug companys push them this is a great one to try stick with it what works for one does not always work for another keep the faith and stick with it you well get relief believe me its well worth it.

Clomipramine was the first drug to actually reduce symptoms in my OCD. It was like a night and day difference. I did not freeze with anxiety anymore when I needed to get things done. I did not obsess about research and other time consuming activities. My psychiatrist calls Clomipramine the gold standard in OCD treatment. I tend to agree. I did however gain 50lbs... I am sure if I dieted better I could have fought that. I also had constipation and sexual side effects.
I have since switched to Luvox and have lost a fair amount of weight. I am still in the ramp up period, so not sure if Luvox will be as effective. We will see. Hopefully so! If not, I will likely be switching back to Clomipramine.
